14 September 2026 PM: XRP leads as Ether gives back morning ground

XRP rises 4% over 24 hours while Ether nears $2,500 and Bitcoin pauses. The afternoon crypto update separates daily gains from softer moves since morning.

XRP is pulling ahead of the other large coins in this afternoon’s snapshot, while Ether has given back most of its margin above $2,500. Bitcoin is little changed since the morning. The overnight recovery has become more selective, and positive daily percentages conceal a softer session for three of the four coins followed here.

The broader market is worth slightly more than this morning, but Bitcoin accounts for a smaller share. At around 14:04 BST on Monday, 14 September, CoinGecko’s global snapshot puts market capitalisation, the estimated value of circulating cryptocurrencies, at approximately $2.66 trillion, or £1.98 trillion. That compares with about $2.65 trillion in the morning report. Bitcoin dominance, its share of the total, is around 58.4%, against the earlier 58.8%.

Those observations suggest a shift in the composition of market value, rather than a uniform advance. The global valuation is still down about 0.7% over CoinGecko’s rolling daily comparison. A higher reading since breakfast and a negative daily change can coexist because their starting points differ.

Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index, a daily sentiment measure incorporating inputs such as volatility and momentum, remains at 57, in the provider’s Greed category. It was 61 yesterday. There is no new afternoon reading to explain today’s changing prices, and the index is a sentiment snapshot rather than a prediction.

The table uses CoinGecko’s nearest available hourly price samples. Changes smaller than 0.5% either way are labelled Neutral; larger gains are Bullish and equivalent falls Bearish. Weekly and monthly mean approximately seven and 30 days. These descriptions summarise observed movement, with no claim that the labels forecast the next move.

Bitcoin is around $77,600, or £57,600, up approximately 1.2% over 24 hours. Its underlying quote of $77,644 is nevertheless about 0.1% below the $77,739 recorded in this morning’s report on the recovery beyond Sunday’s level. That is a modest intraday retreat, not a fresh extension of the morning advance.

The useful distinction is between keeping recovered ground and adding to it. Bitcoin remains above the roughly $77,300 Sunday morning reference used in the earlier article. It has held that particular improvement while giving back a small part of the subsequent rise. The daily gain alone would make the afternoon look stronger than this fixed comparison suggests.

Its smaller share of total market value also deserves careful reading. Dominance can fall when other assets grow faster, even if Bitcoin barely moves. It does not by itself demonstrate that investors sold Bitcoin to buy another coin. The practical observation is that Bitcoin is no longer describing the whole afternoon.

XRP is near $1.39, or £1.03, up about 4.0% over 24 hours. That is the largest daily gain among the four coins in this snapshot. It is also above the morning’s rounded $1.38, making it the only one of this group clearly higher on both the daily and morning comparisons.

The rounded quotes do not justify a precise intraday return, but the contrast is useful. XRP’s relative strength is visible without assigning it an unverified announcement or assuming that its move represents every smaller cryptocurrency. The other three coins are below their morning observations despite showing positive daily changes.

This is where a headline about a broadly rising crypto market would lose detail. XRP supports the idea of selective strength, while the wider valuation and falling Bitcoin share provide separate context. They do not establish the cause of XRP’s gain, and none of them tells us whether that relative performance will persist.

Ether is around $2,502, or £1,857, up approximately 1.1% over 24 hours. Ether, the coin used on Ethereum, is about 0.8% below the morning’s $2,522 observation. Its margin above $2,500 has narrowed to only a couple of dollars, so rounding and the time of the next quote matter.

Yesterday’s afternoon report on Ether falling below $2,500 explains why that round number is a useful reference. The latest quote remains above it, but the fuller recovery to Sunday’s morning level has faded. A positive daily percentage should not be mistaken for uninterrupted progress since breakfast.

Solana is near $101.17, or £75.12, up around 1.5% over 24 hours. It is approximately 0.5% below the morning’s $101.64. It has therefore slipped further from the $101.75 Sunday morning reference that the earlier update was watching, while remaining above $100.

Solana makes the timeframe issue especially clear: its daily percentage is stronger than Bitcoin’s or Ether’s, yet it has lost ground during the session. All current coin prices and daily changes are from CoinGecko’s dollar and sterling quotes. Sterling returns can differ from dollar returns because the currency conversion changes too.

The wider lesson this afternoon is that market value and money entering the market are different things. A rise from approximately $2.65 trillion to $2.66 trillion does not mean an equivalent sum of new cash arrived. Market capitalisation applies observed prices to circulating supply; changes in those prices can revalue many coins without all of them trading.

Likewise, Bitcoin’s lower percentage share cannot identify the buyers or sellers behind the move. The combination of a slightly higher global valuation, a nearly steady Bitcoin price and stronger XRP is consistent with uneven performance. It is evidence about relative prices, not a measured transfer of funds between assets.

What to watch into the evening is whether this divergence broadens or narrows. Compare Bitcoin with this morning’s $77,739: moving above it would restore the small intraday loss, while $77,300 remains the earlier weekend reference. For Ether, distinguish holding $2,500 from regaining $2,522. Those are different stages of recovery, not promised floors beneath the price.

For XRP, compare the next quote with $1.39 alongside the other three coins, rather than treating a large daily percentage as sufficient evidence of continuing leadership. Beyond today’s prices, the FCA’s published application timetable runs from 30 September 2026 to 28 February 2027. That is an existing UK regulatory milestone to follow, not a new announcement explaining this afternoon’s moves.
