12 September 2026: Overnight pause trims Ethereum’s Friday gains
Ethereum slips towards $2,500 as Bitcoin holds near $77,200. Saturday’s crypto sentiment improves, but overnight prices show little fresh progress.
Saturday starts with less of Friday evening’s Ethereum gain intact. Ether has slipped towards $2,500 while Bitcoin barely moves near $77,200 and Solana holds above $100. The fresh sentiment reading is more upbeat, but the overnight prices offer a quieter message: confidence has improved without a matching advance across the four major coins covered here.
The overall market valuation is almost unchanged from Friday evening at the precision used in these reports. At around 07:13 BST on 12 September, CoinGecko’s global snapshot puts market capitalisation, the estimated value of circulating cryptocurrencies, near $2.66 trillion. Bitcoin dominance, its share of that total, is approximately 58.2%, also close to last night’s reading. Market value is not a measure of cash deposited by investors. It can change as existing coins are repriced, even without a matching amount of new money entering the market.
Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index, a daily Bitcoin sentiment measure using inputs including volatility and momentum, has risen from 56 to 63. Both readings carry the provider’s Greed label. That is a change in measured sentiment, not evidence that prices must follow it upwards.
| Timeframe | Regime | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | Neutral | Price down about 0.02% over this period. |
| 4 hours | Neutral | Price down about 0.08% over this period. |
| Daily | Neutral | Price down about 0.02% over this period. |
| Weekly | Bearish | Price down about 3.00% over this period. |
| Monthly | Bullish | Price up about 20.97% over this period. |

The table describes observed Bitcoin price changes using nearby CoinGecko chart samples. Changes smaller than 0.5% either way are labelled Neutral; larger gains are Bullish and equivalent falls Bearish. Weekly and monthly refer to rolling seven and 30 day periods. These descriptions record the past rather than predict the next move, and chart samples can differ slightly from the separate live quote.
Bitcoin is around $77,200, or £57,060, down about 0.1% over 24 hours. It is also almost unchanged from the $77,223 quoted in Friday evening’s account of the divided recovery. The overnight comparison therefore shows a pause after the earlier retreat, rather than a substantial new leg down.
Friday afternoon’s roughly $77,850 remains a useful comparison. Bitcoin has not returned to that observation, even though the latest daily percentage looks uneventful. A daily percentage compares two points separated by 24 hours; it does not describe every rise and fall in between. The fixed afternoon and evening observations preserve that sequence for readers returning today.
The weekly chart comparison remains negative while the monthly one is positive. Those can coexist because each starts from a different price. There is no need to select whichever period supports the more dramatic story. For this morning’s purposes, Bitcoin has stabilised near the evening observation but has not recovered Friday afternoon’s lost ground.
Ether is near $2,511, or £1,856, up about 1.7% over 24 hours but down roughly 1.4% since Friday evening. Ether, the coin used on Ethereum, has retreated from last night’s rounded $2,545. That makes it the clearest overnight decline among the four assets in this briefing, despite its positive daily return.
It remains slightly above the afternoon’s $2,503 and above Friday morning’s $2,469. Much of the day’s earlier improvement therefore survives, but the additional evening gain has largely unwound. Calling this either an uninterrupted rally or a complete reversal would miss the actual sequence of prices.
That is the practical distinction for a returning reader: Ether’s relative strength yesterday did not prevent an overnight pullback. The price observations establish that change without identifying the sellers or proving a new development in Ethereum itself. A claim about institutional flows or network demand would require separate evidence.
Solana is around $101.54, or £75.06, up approximately 1.7% over 24 hours. Against last night’s $101.60, its overnight change is very small. It has retained the return above $100 described in Friday’s reports, while Ether has relinquished part of its later gain.
That makes Solana’s role in this update one of retention. It has not joined Ether’s visible overnight decline to the same extent, nor has it posted a substantial fresh advance. The $100 figure provides an easy comparison with yesterday’s recovery; it is not a guaranteed floor or a reason to make a transaction.
XRP is near $1.36, up about 0.9% over 24 hours. At two decimal places, its price matches the evening report. Rounded quotes cannot establish an exact zero return, but they show little visible overnight progress at the precision used here.
The CoinGecko price snapshot therefore supports a restrained reading across the group: Bitcoin steady, Ether lower, Solana holding and XRP little changed. Four large coins are a limited sample, so their performance should not be presented as a verdict on every cryptocurrency.
The useful theme this morning is how much a recovery retains between reports. Friday’s afternoon advance became an uneven evening picture, and Saturday has removed part of Ether’s later improvement. Following those fixed observations reveals more than simply counting how many daily percentages are positive.
This is also why a stronger sentiment score cannot settle the market story. The index refreshes daily, while cryptocurrency quotes change continuously. Its observation window differs from the interval since our evening report. Today’s higher score can sit alongside quieter or weaker overnight prices without either measurement being wrong.
Yesterday’s morning report on the sharp sentiment decline recorded a very different change in confidence. Today reverses part of that numerical fall, but a reversal in an index is not automatically a reversal in an asset’s price. Readers get a more reliable picture by keeping the sentiment measure alongside the price sequence, rather than letting one substitute for the other.
What to watch through Saturday is whether Ether retains $2,500 and the quieter coins begin to move. Compare Ether with this morning’s $2,511 and last night’s $2,545. A return towards the latter would recover the overnight decline; a move below $2,500 would give back more of Friday’s improvement. These are reporting references, not targets.
For Bitcoin, compare the next observation with $77,200 and Friday afternoon’s $77,850. Then check Solana against $100 and XRP against its rounded $1.36. Improvement across several of these observations would show a broader advance than one coin rising alone. Another quiet snapshot would leave the weekend holding pattern largely intact.
