11 September 2026 Evening: Late Bitcoin retreat splits the crypto recovery
Bitcoin gives back its afternoon gain while Ether advances and Solana holds above $100, leaving a selective crypto recovery heading into the weekend.
Friday’s crypto recovery has split apart by the evening checkpoint. Bitcoin has returned to roughly its morning price, while Ether has added to its afternoon gain. Solana has held above $100 and XRP is little changed. The day therefore ends with a more selective improvement than the broad advance visible earlier, as trading continues into the Asian weekend.
The market’s overall valuation has slipped back from its afternoon reading. At approximately 20:37 BST on 11 September, CoinGecko’s global snapshot puts market capitalisation, the estimated value of circulating cryptocurrencies, near $2.66 trillion, against the afternoon’s rounded $2.68 trillion. Bitcoin dominance, its share of that total, is about 58.2%, compared with around 58.5% earlier.
Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index, a daily Bitcoin sentiment measure drawing on inputs including momentum and volatility, remains at 56, labelled Greed. This is the same daily reading used in both earlier reports. It has not refreshed to measure the evening retreat and should not be treated as a forecast.
| Timeframe | Regime | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | Bearish | Price down about 0.70% over this period. |
| 4 hours | Bearish | Price down about 2.01% over this period. |
| Daily | Neutral | Price up about 0.09% over this period. |
| Weekly | Bearish | Price down about 3.10% over this period. |
| Monthly | Bullish | Price up about 21.50% over this period. |

The table describes historical Bitcoin price changes. Moves smaller than 0.5% either way are labelled Neutral; larger gains are Bullish and equivalent falls Bearish. Weekly and monthly mean rolling seven and 30 day periods. These are descriptive labels, not trading signals. The chart samples and separate live quote can differ slightly.
Bitcoin is around $77,223, up just 0.1% over 24 hours but down about 0.8% since the afternoon report. The latest CoinGecko coin snapshot places it below the rounded $77,850 in our afternoon account of the crypto advance. It is also almost back to the morning’s $77,250.
That makes the evening comparison more revealing than the small positive daily percentage. Someone looking only at the daily figure could reasonably see a quiet market. Following today’s fixed checkpoints shows an advance that has largely unwound. Neither observation establishes who sold or why, but the latter tells readers what happened to the improvement they saw earlier.
The chart’s roughly 2% fall over four hours is larger than the decline since the afternoon report because it starts from a different observation. Those numbers should not be added together. For Bitcoin, the useful closing judgement is straightforward: Friday’s earlier progress has not survived intact, even though the daily quote remains marginally positive.
Ether is near $2,545, up about 3.3% over 24 hours and roughly 1.7% since the afternoon checkpoint. Ether, the coin used on Ethereum, has moved further above the $2,503 quoted earlier. Compared with the morning’s rounded $2,469, its gain is approximately 3.1%.
This is the clearest contrast with Bitcoin. Both were higher at the afternoon observation, but only Ether has extended that gain substantially in the latest comparison. That does not prove money has moved directly from Bitcoin into Ether. Prices establish relative performance; identifying a transfer of capital would require separate evidence about transactions or investment flows.
Ether has also fallen over the latest hour in the provider’s snapshot, despite remaining ahead of the afternoon quote. Its stronger position is therefore compatible with some late weakness. The takeaway is relative resilience across today’s checkpoints, rather than an uninterrupted climb or a claim that Ethereum has acquired a new fundamental advantage.
Solana is around $101.60, up roughly 1.7% over 24 hours and only about 0.2% above the afternoon price. It has retained the return above $100 described earlier, with little additional progress from $101.35. Against the morning’s $99.84, the improvement is around 1.8%.
Solana’s role in the evening story is retention rather than acceleration. It has kept more of today’s advance than Bitcoin, while adding much less than Ether since the afternoon. This distinction matters when deciding how broadly a recovery has spread: several coins holding gains is different from all of them continuing to rise together.
XRP is near $1.36, up about 0.1% over 24 hours and unchanged from the afternoon at two decimal places. The rounded quote is above this morning’s $1.35, but the latest comparison offers little evidence of a substantial additional move. Rounded prices cannot establish an exact zero return between reports.
Across these four coins, the outcome is selective: Ether ahead, Solana holding, XRP broadly steady and Bitcoin retracing. This small sample cannot describe every cryptocurrency. It does show why a single positive daily percentage, or one rising coin, is insufficient evidence of a market moving uniformly higher.
Today’s inflation figures remain relevant context, but they do not explain every evening price change. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics release says consumer prices rose 0.4% in August after 0.1% in July, while annual inflation remained 3.4%. Those results were already available in the afternoon edition, so they are not a new evening catalyst.
The fresh information is how differently the coins have subsequently performed. A common economic backdrop can coexist with divergent prices. Without evidence isolating the effect of the release, assigning Bitcoin’s retreat or Ether’s relative strength to inflation would go beyond what these observations demonstrate.
There is also no single official closing price for a market that trades around the clock. This evening report fixes one observation time so the next edition has a clear comparison. It does not imply trading has stopped, or that the next Asian session must follow the direction visible at this checkpoint.
What to watch into Saturday is whether the split narrows or persists. First compare Bitcoin with $77,250, the morning checkpoint, and then $77,850, the afternoon one. Returning towards the latter would recover lost ground; remaining near the former would leave Friday’s earlier improvement largely erased. These are reporting references, not targets.
For Ether, compare the next quote with this evening’s $2,545 and the earlier $2,503. Then check whether Solana retains $100 and XRP moves visibly beyond $1.36. Together, these observations will show whether improvement is spreading again or becoming more concentrated. Keep the daily sentiment reading separate, as this morning’s report on cooling confidence explained: a sentiment category and a price change measure different things.
