8 September 2026 Evening: XRP advances as Bitcoin trails its morning price
XRP leads the evening improvement while Bitcoin remains below its morning price, with Ether and Solana recovering a little ground before Asia opens.
XRP has moved ahead of the other major coins in Tuesday’s evening snapshot, while Bitcoin remains slightly below its morning price. Ether and Solana have recovered a little ground since breakfast, leaving a less uniform picture than the shared overnight decline. The useful change is that the losses are no longer spreading evenly across the four coins followed here. That is an improvement in the breadth of the market, meaning how widely a move is shared, but it is still short of a recovery led by Bitcoin.
The evening market is more varied than the morning’s blanket declines suggested. At around 20:37 BST on 8 September, CoinGecko’s global figures put crypto market capitalisation, the estimated value of circulating coins, at about $2.70 trillion, with Bitcoin dominance, its share of that total, at 58.3%. Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index, a daily Bitcoin sentiment gauge drawing on measures including volatility and momentum, remains at 69 in Greed, the same reading reported this morning; it describes sentiment rather than predicting the next move.
| Timeframe | Regime | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | Neutral | Price down about 0.20% over this period. |
| 4 hours | Neutral | Price down about 0.09% over this period. |
| Daily | Bearish | Price down about 1.17% over this period. |
| Weekly | Bullish | Price up about 1.50% over this period. |
| Monthly | Bullish | Price up about 20.30% over this period. |

The table describes recorded Bitcoin price changes. Moves smaller than 0.5% in either direction are labelled Neutral, larger gains Bullish and larger losses Bearish. These are descriptive categories, not trading signals. The four hour figure comes from a comparison of CoinGecko’s recorded prices, while the other figures are the provider’s reported changes. Weekly and monthly mean rolling seven and 30 day periods. The table therefore compares several starting points rather than five competing forecasts.
Bitcoin is around $78,437, down about 1.2% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. That leaves it approximately $160, or 0.2%, below the rounded $78,600 in this morning’s account of deepening overnight losses. The additional decline is modest compared with the overnight retreat. Bitcoin has not regained the morning reference, but the difference between the two snapshots does not support describing the whole day as another sharp fall.
The latest four hour change is also small, a decline of roughly 0.1%. Meanwhile, the seven day gain is about 1.5% and the 30 day gain about 20.3%. Those figures establish a softer recent period within a positive longer comparison. They cannot tell us whether that longer advance will resume. The practical evening reading is that Bitcoin has held relatively close to its morning quote while remaining below yesterday’s level.
For UK readers, the dollar price translates to approximately £57,900 using the currency ratio implied by CoinGecko’s contemporaneous global totals. This is an indicative conversion, not a dealing quote. The return on a sterling holding also depends on the pound and transaction costs, so a dollar percentage is only part of that investor’s experience.
XRP is around $1.43, up about 1.7% over 24 hours and above the morning’s rounded $1.39 quote. It is the only one of these four coins showing a positive daily return in the evening data. The direction since morning is also clear, although those two decimal place prices do not justify an overly precise intraday percentage. Unlike Bitcoin, XRP has improved on both the daily comparison and the earlier published snapshot.
That makes XRP the clearest exception to the day’s broader weakness. It does not, by itself, establish a regulatory explanation or demonstrate that investors have shifted money from Bitcoin into XRP. A price divergence is observable; the motive behind transactions needs separate evidence. The useful takeaway is that Bitcoin’s negative daily figure now gives an incomplete impression of the coins covered here.
Ether is near $2,483.91, down about 0.5% over 24 hours but approximately 0.4% above its morning quote. The earlier report put it around $2,473. Ether has therefore recovered a little ground during the day without erasing its daily loss. That is a more encouraging intraday comparison than Bitcoin’s, but it remains a small change rather than proof of a sustained turn.
Solana is around $103.26, down about 1% over the daily window and slightly above the rounded $103 morning reference. The limited precision of that earlier figure makes the size of the intraday improvement less informative than its broad direction. Together, Ether and Solana occupy the middle ground between Bitcoin’s slight further retreat and XRP’s clearer advance. Their modest improvement is why the evening story differs from the morning’s shared decline.
The market’s total value can improve while Bitcoin slips, because the total includes much more than Bitcoin. This morning’s report put the combined valuation near $2.66 trillion, compared with roughly $2.70 trillion now. Those are rounded provider snapshots, not a measurement of money deposited into crypto accounts. Market capitalisation combines prices with circulating supplies, so a change in the total is a valuation change rather than an equivalent cash inflow.
Our guide to checking token supply and circulating value explains why supply belongs alongside price when comparing cryptocurrencies. Tonight’s lower Bitcoin share and the different coin performances illustrate the same principle at market level. A larger overall total does not mean every constituent rose. Nor can it establish that all smaller coins participated in the improvement: the four assets examined here are a sample, not the entire market.
Watch whether the next Asian session broadens today’s partial improvement. First, compare Bitcoin with the $78,600 morning reference. Moving back above it would recover the small additional loss between these reports; staying below would leave that recovery incomplete. Second, compare Ether with tonight’s approximate $2,484 and the familiar $2,500 reference. A higher quote would show further recovery, without making that round number a guaranteed turning point.
Third, check whether XRP retains its improvement from the $1.39 morning quote while Ether and Solana also strengthen. That would show the improvement becoming more widely shared than an XRP move alone. Conversely, those coins returning towards their morning levels would weaken tonight’s account of a partial recovery. Crypto continues trading overnight, so this evening close summary is a timed checkpoint, not a single official closing price. The next report should judge what changed against these observations rather than infer a direction from the sentiment label.
