6 September 2026 PM: Recovery turns uneven as Ether slips and Solana rises
Bitcoin holds near $80,000 while Ether slips and Solana edges higher. The afternoon recovery remains uneven ahead of the US market holiday.
Bitcoin is still just below $80,000 this Sunday afternoon, but the recovery has become less uniform since breakfast. Ether has slipped slightly while Solana has added to its gains. The useful change on 6 September is that divergence within a largely steady market, as crypto approaches another day without a regular US share trading session.
The afternoon snapshot shows stability in Bitcoin alongside a weaker aggregate market reading. At around 14:03 BST, CoinGecko’s global data put total crypto capitalisation, the estimated value of circulating coins, near $2.71 trillion, down approximately 2.5% over the rolling day. Bitcoin dominance, its share of that total, was about 59.2%.
That aggregate decline sits alongside positive daily changes in the four large coins covered below. A small selection of assets does not reproduce the provider’s whole market measure, and these separate snapshots should not be treated as a perfectly synchronised account of every transaction. The narrower conclusion is that the familiar large coins offer an incomplete picture of the afternoon.
Alternative.me’s Fear and Greed Index, a Bitcoin sentiment gauge using inputs including volatility, momentum and social activity, remains at 73, labelled Greed. This is today’s published daily reading, unchanged from yesterday and this morning. It measures mood rather than predicting returns, so its stability does not establish that afternoon buying has strengthened.
The table summarises observed Bitcoin price changes. Moves below 0.5% in either direction are labelled Neutral; larger gains are Bullish and larger falls Bearish. These are descriptive labels, not trading signals.
| Timeframe | Regime | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | Neutral | Price up about 0.00% over this period. |
| 4 hours | Neutral | Price up about 0.11% over this period. |
| Daily | Neutral | Price up about 0.25% over this period. |
| Weekly | Bullish | Price up about 2.30% over this period. |
| Monthly | Bullish | Price up about 23.00% over this period. |

Bitcoin is around $79,920, up about 0.3% over 24 hours and almost unchanged from this morning’s rounded $79,900. The latest CoinGecko Bitcoin snapshot therefore leaves the largest cryptocurrency in much the same position as at breakfast. There is no substantial afternoon advance to explain.
The four hour chart comparison shows a gain of roughly 0.1%, while the weekly and monthly readings remain positive. A pause over several hours can coexist with an advance over longer periods. Treating the shortest interval as the whole story would exaggerate the importance of a small move; treating the monthly gain as proof of another rise would make the opposite mistake.
Our Sunday morning update on the uneven crypto recovery established the earlier reference point. Against that baseline, Bitcoin has held its area rather than followed Solana noticeably higher. For readers checking in twice today, that is the main Bitcoin development: persistence below a visible round number, with little additional direction.
Ether is near $2,500, up approximately 1.6% over the rolling day but slightly below this morning’s $2,510. Ether is the asset used on the Ethereum network. Its modest intraday retreat is only about 0.4% against the rounded morning figure, yet it makes the afternoon different from a simple continuation of the earlier recovery.
There is no contradiction between being up over 24 hours and down since breakfast. The two comparisons start at different times. That distinction is especially useful when an app shows a green daily percentage beside a holding whose value has fallen since you last looked. Neither display needs to be wrong.
Ether’s move is small enough that a sweeping explanation would outrun the evidence. It shows that the earlier improvement has not advanced evenly through the session. It does not, by itself, demonstrate a change in network use, fund demand or the intentions of longer term holders.
Solana is around $106.83, up roughly 3.4% over 24 hours and about 0.6% above this morning’s $106.20. It remains the strongest daily performer in this four coin comparison, and it has also made further progress during the British day. That gives its relative strength a firmer basis than looking at the daily percentage alone.
Its reported daily gain is smaller than the morning’s 4.3%, even though its latest price is higher. The starting point of the rolling comparison has moved forward. This is a useful example of why a shrinking green percentage does not necessarily mean a coin has fallen since the previous update.
Solana’s performance establishes an observable divergence from Ether. It does not trace money moving between the two networks, or prove that a particular announcement caused the difference. The practical implication is to compare matching periods before deciding whether a headline about a recovery describes the assets you actually follow.
XRP is around $1.42, up approximately 0.3% over 24 hours and unchanged from the morning price at that rounding. It adds another example of afternoon steadiness rather than a broad acceleration. The smaller dollar price does not make it inherently cheaper than Bitcoin or Ether: circulating supply also matters, as our guide to checking token supply and circulation explains.
The market calendar leaves this divergence without a normal US share market comparison on Monday. The NYSE holiday calendar confirms that its markets are closed on 7 September for Labour Day. Crypto continues trading, but US listed exchange traded funds, whose units trade on stock exchanges, will not have their usual regular session alongside it.
That matters when assessing claims about institutional confirmation. A weekend price move is observable; a matching regular session in those US funds has not occurred. The closure does not prove that crypto liquidity, the ease of completing an order without substantially moving the price, is weak. It simply removes one familiar comparison until Tuesday, 8 September.
What to watch into evening starts with whether Bitcoin moves meaningfully away from $80,000. Remaining just below that figure would extend the holding pattern. Sustained trading above it would change the immediate description, but the round number is neither a guaranteed barrier nor a price target.
Next, compare Ether with this afternoon’s $2,500 and Solana with roughly $106.80. Those are snapshot references, not recommended entry points. They will show whether today’s divergence widens or narrows. Finally, use Tuesday’s resumed US share session to assess the holiday period with a fuller set of market observations. Until then, the evidence supports a quiet Bitcoin afternoon and selective movement elsewhere, with no need to turn small changes into a larger claim.
